Ashes of October – Last Words of the crucified
In this session I'm going to do a quick review of
horror punk and psychobilly albums as I listen to them(or listen again!), starting
with this album released by the band Ashes of October, entitled “Last Words of the
Crucified”.
The album was released in 2003, and this is the only
information I got about the band. I don't know where they are from, and if they
haven't even launched any other record than this one.
Well, It is an extremely fun and uncompromising
record.
With a very crude production and betting on vocals
that sometimes sound weirdly funny, we have songs here well built and played
with a joyful and entertaining footprint. Rarely do the vocals sound in tune,
but let's be honest – who the hell am I
to criticize that ?!
And even within the tunings, the vocal delivers what
the music proposes.
In terms of compositions, we have a traditional punk
horror without much news, strongly influenced by Misfits and Blitzkid (at the
beginning of its career). Sticky choruses sung in unison by the band members,
and of course the traditional “oh-oh-oh-oh-” style. Nothing innovative or
redefining style, but it keeps the flame of Horror punk burning.
Too bad it was so hard to get any information about
the band. We don't know who the musicians are, their names, what country the
band is from ...
As a highlight, I put on the song “When She Screams”.
Although the vocal was inaudible in most
of the song, it seems to have come out of some obscure Misfits tape at the
beginning of their career.

vou fazer resenha bem rápidas de albums de horror punk e psychobilly a medida
que eu for escutando (ou reescutando!).
Começo com
esse disco da banda Ashes of October, intitulado “Last Words of the Crucified”.
O disco foi lançado em 2003, e esta é a única informação que eu consegui sobre
a banda. Não sei de onde eles são, e nem se lançaram alguma coisa além desse
aqui.
Trata-se de
um disco extremamente divertido e descompromissado. Com uma produção bem tosca
(no bom sentido) e apostando em vocais que as vezes soam caricatos, temos aqui
musicas bem construídas e tocadas com uma pegada alegre e que diverte bastante.
Raramente os vocais soam afinados, mas sejamos sinceros – quem sou eu para
criticar isso?!
E mesmo
dentro das desafinações, o vocal entrega aquilo que a música se propõe.
Na parte das
composições, temos um horror punk tradicional sem muitas novidades, fortemente
influenciado por Misfits e Blitzkid (no começo de carreira). Refrões grudentos
cantados em uníssono pelos membros da banda, e logicamente os “o-o-o-o-“
tradicionais do estilo. Nada de inovador ou que redefine o estilo, mas mantem a
chama do Horror punk acesa.
Uma pena ser
tão difícil conseguir qualquer informação sobre a banda. Não sabemos quem são
os músicos, seus nomes, de qual país a banda é...
Como
destaque, eu coloco a musica “When She Screams”. Apesar do vocal ter ficado
baixo na maior parte da musica, a mesma parece ter saido de alguma fita obscura
do Misfits em começo de carreira.
